FlipSide guide 5/24/12: Memorial Day weekend festivals, Jaycee’s chili cookoff, Skyrush opens ay Hersheypark

Music:
– Spend an Acoustic Evening with Jason Isbell and CapLive 8 tonight at the Capitol Theatre, 50 N. George St., York. [$18]
– Head to the first Jazz on the Veranda concert 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Friday at The Hotel Hershey. The series runs through Aug. 31. [Free; light fare and drinks are available for purchase]
– Steep Canyon Rangers will perform with Steve Martin 8 p.m. Friday at American Music Theatre, 2425 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. [$79] Read a recent interview with the Rangers.
– Also at the Strand-Capitol: Eagles vocalist and bassist Timothy B. Schmit will perform 7:30 p.m. Saturday. [$24, $29 and $34]
The Hanover Lyric Band is celebrating 80 years. Hear the band perform Sundays starting this weekend through Sept. 2 at the Codorus State Park band shell.

Festivals and food:
– Can you smell the spicy aroma? Head to The 24th Annual York Jaycees’ Chili Cookoff and Salsa Showdown noon Saturday on Brooks Robinson Plaza at Sovereign Bank Stadium, 5 Brooks Robinson Way, York. [$10]
Artsfest of Greater Harrisburg runs 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday in Riverfront Park, along Front Street in Harrisburg. [$5 and are good for all three days; children 16 and younger enter for free]
– Take in food and entertainment during The Great PA FlavorFest 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Mount Hope Estate and Winery, Route 72, Cornwall. [Free]
– Soak in some sun, tunes and wine this weekend at the Moon Dancer Jazz Festival 2 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Moon Dancer Vineyards and Winery, 1282 Klines Run Road, Lower Windsor Township. [$20 for two-day tickets; $10 per day for those younger than 21]

Fun in the sun:
– Be one of the first to ride the new roller coaster, Skyrush, Saturday at Hersheypark, 100 W. Hersheypark Drive, Hershey. Read the amusement park roundup at ydr.com/living. [Admission to the park is $56.95 for those 9 to 54; discounts are available for young children and seniors]
– Adventure packages and Mountain View Food and Spirits open this weekend at Roundtop Mountain Resort, 925 Roundtop Road, Warrington Township. Head to a Ropes Course Open Climb 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Visitors can try ropes elements, climbing walls, kayaks, canoes and a zip lines. [$15]
– Monday is a Fish-for-Free Day in Pennsylvania. Anyone (resident or non-resident) can legally fish without a license on all state waterways.

– Step right up to Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Presents Dragons various times today through Monday at the Giant Center, 550 W. Hersheypark Drive, Hershey. Shows include animals, clowns and and a globe of steel. [$13 to $80]
– Drink in the wild life during Brew at the Zoo 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Maryland Zoo, Druid Hill Park, Baltimore. [$45 for 21 and older, $25 for designated drivers and those younger than 21; zoo admission included included]
